This Mediterranean specialty is testimony to the versatility of the artichoke and was originally launched in 1949 as a spirit based medicine flavoured with Artichoke. Although relatively unknown in Australia, next to Campari, Cynar is the second best selling bitters in the world. The flavour extract actually comes from artichoke leaves rather than the hearts, but also relies on a number of aromatic herbs and spices including orange peel, gentian and rhubarb.

Deep amber-brown in colour. Slightly medicinal character on the nose and palate. A touch sweet with herbal, citrus flavours; finishing soft and bitter. A very distinctive aperitif that will work equally as a digestive. Enjoy straight or with soda – always use ice.
