Created in the 1990s as part of the evolving Penfolds white wine development program, Bin 51 Eden Valley Riesling captures the attributes of Eden Valley.

The region’s high altitude and cool climate induces Riesling with great ?nesse, elegance with a capacity for long term cellaring. South Australia has gained

worldwide recognition for producing de?nitive world-class Riesling, with the Eden Valley at the very head of the ?eld. In their youth, the wines possess focused apple/lime aromas, with a mineral edge and marked natural acidity, contributing signi?cantly to the palate texture and ?avour. The evolution of Penfolds Bin 51 Eden Valley Riesling opens a new chapter in a long history of Penfolds involvement in winemaking from this variety.

Expert Reviews

Rating 91+, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, #211, Feb 2014

The 2013 Bin 51 Eden Valley Riesling has very pretty scents of orange blossom and jasmine adorning an attractive core of limes and acacia honey. Dry, light-bodied and very clean on the palate, it has a long, citrus finish. Approachable now, there were only 554 bottles produced. Drink it now to 2020+.

Winery Tasting Notes

Pale straw with lime green hues.

Definitive Eden Valley Riesling!

Want ?orals, look no further……spicy jasmine, mandarin blossom and underlying whiffs of French marigold amongst perfumed bath salts and an intriguing wet slate minerality. Let’s not forget the lime zest!

Citrus bursts with lime juice aplenty! Fine, long and linear natural acid encompassing the entire length of the palate – talc, slate, mineral – brilliant! One for the ages - classic Australian bone dry Riesling. Classic Eden Valley!

Welcome back!

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Australia's winemaking history of less than two hundred years is brief by European measures though, like Europe, punctuated by periods of extreme success and difficult times. From the earliest winemaking days Penfolds has figured prominently and few would argue the importance of Penfolds' influence on Australia's winemaking psyche.

Without the influence of Penfolds the modern Australian wine industry would look very different indeed. Sitting comfortably outside of fad and fashion, Penfolds has taken Australian wine to the world on a grand stage and forged a reputation for quality that is without peer.

Penfolds' reputation for making wines of provenance and cellaring potential might suggest a mantle of tradition and formality is the preferred attire of a company with so much history to defend. But to label Penfolds as simply an established and conventional winemaker, would be to confuse tradition with consideration and to overlook the innovative spirit that has driven Penfolds since its foundation, and continues to find expression in modern times.

If there is anything traditional about Penfolds, it is the practice of constantly reviewing the wines it already does well, and continuously evolving and refining styles as vineyards mature and access to ever older and more varied vineyard sites improves.
