David Paxton believes that the people who apply the art and science of viticulture are just as important as the winemaker in the making of good wines. That’s why for three decades the Paxtons have nurtured their prized vineyards, some of which were first planted in the 1890s.
Jones Block Shiraz is well regarded for its generous yet elegant style; a style that we believe demonstrates the superior quality of McLaren Vale Shiraz.

Aged for 20 months in a 50/50 mix of French and American oak, 50% new, the 2009 Jones Block Shiraz presents a medium-deep garnet-purple color and intense nose of blackberry preserves, blueberries and Indian spices with a slight floral lift and a dash of black pepper. Concentrated and full bodied on the palate, the dense muscular fruit is well supported by a medium to firm level of grainy tannins and crisp acidity, finishing long and spicy. Drinking now, it should cellar to 2018.
Rating 91 - Drink 2012 -2018 - Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, eRobertParker.com (FEB/2012)
A ripe and inviting array of red and black fruits, spice, fruitcake mocha and sea salt; the palate is bright and fresh, with generous lashings of sweet fruit and a trailing accent of choc mint that weaves seamlessly through the palate; a warm and easy going wine, with plenty of time ahead.
Rating 94 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (JAN/2012)
Winery Tasting Notes
Vibrant, deep plum with purple hues
Lifted, dark fruit with attractive floral, some cedar and black olive.
Full, rich, even and smooth. This wine has complexity with great fruit expression and a savoury edge. Oak flavours integrate with the fruit to enhance the flavour. Well structured and very approachable.
Will reward cellaring for 10 – 15 years from vintage.
