One Planet Shiraz showcases the pure fruit expression, depth of fl avour and elegance attributed to the opulent McLaren Vale region. The 2008 vintage proved very testing due to a record breaking heatwave which hit in the middle of harvest and extended for nearly a fortnight. Fruit left on the vine during this oppressive heat ripened through shrivel, making it diffi cult to achieve fl avour whilst also avoiding green tannins from undeveloped seeds. Fortunately our fruit was harvested from low cropping vineyards before the start of March avoiding the majority of such problems. I am proud to present this immense, rich, juicy blockbuster as our first offering of One Planet.

The old saying "never judge a book by its cover" is just as true with wine. One Planet was set up by a group of friends and winemakers to create environmentally sustainable wines with low carbon footprints. Hence, the carbon-neutral Tetra Pak. But it’s what’s inside that counts and this is good, with deep aromas and flavours of blackberry, plums, dark cherries and chocolate. It has a luxurious, smooth texture that’s well balanced with a slightly sour rhubarb-like acidity and grippy tannins. The packaging also helps make it the perfect wine to take on picnics. You definitely know you’re drinking a red from McLaren Vale here. It’s seductively intense with ripe, juicy, dense dark cherries to the fore with a soft, velvety underbelly of richness fleshing out the mouth-feel. More complex choc/spice nuances round out a fine first offering. Great value and very yum.Jon Helmer, Surf Coast Times (JUN/2010)
Well-derived dark plum and dark chocolate flavours make a strong statement here, with superb texture, restrained ripeness, excellent balance. All very cleverly put together into a deal that's way more than a green gimmick.Rating 4.5 Stars - Tony Love, The Advertiser (JUL/2010)
Rich Crimson wine. Intense, dense aromatics - hints of prunes, rhubarb and cedar. Oak dominates he palate for now but is well integrated with some 'cool' fruit.Rating 4.5 Star - Winestate Magazine (JUN/2010)
Lovely aromas of dark chocolate, black olives and charry oak. Deep and fleshy in the mouth, with yummy dark fruit and cleaning oak flavours. Rating 4 Star - Winestate Magazine (MAR/2010)
Winery Tasting Notes
Ominous cherry black with purple hue.
Attractive perfume of blackcurrant pastilles, cedar, vanillin and a lift of menthol.
Intense, juicy satsuma plums and boysenberries, enriched by a bounty of ripe black cherries laced with toasty oak. The generous flesh and weight of these primary fl avours extend through the prodigious palate, revealing more subtle spicy, chocolate, tobacco and meaty nuances, smoothly melding into the long and satisfyingly silky fi nish of chewy licorice tannins and a dash of white pepper.
Perfectly suited to the package this wine screams to me for a wide open plain accompanied by a grilled fillet of Aussie beef or a hearty beef casserole served under brilliant glittering stars!
