Once again pursuing the Neudorf line of weight and balance, this Sauvignon Blanc reflects the excellent 2012 vintage.
“Neudorf Nelson Sauvignon Blanc 2012 has an elegant and stylishly proportioned nose with restrained aromas of gooseberries and stonefruits revealing mineral, white floral and citrus detail in the glass. Dry to taste, this is very fine-featured with intense flavours of gooseberries, stonefruits, citrus and limes. The fruit notes are nuanced and interwoven, forming a good core with presence, and have a deliciously subtle richness which is enhanced by bright, lively acidity. The palate has excellent tension and a refined mouthfeel that flows to a lingering, softly dry finish. This is a beautifully refined and detailed Sauvignon Blanc with a stylish array of flavours. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 2-3 years. 18.5-/20, Five Stars” Raymond Chan Wine Reviews
Neudorf Nelson Sauvignon Blanc 2012. “Looking for a Sauvignon Blanc ‘with texture, that is complex and satisfying’, Partly (15-20 per cent) fermented in old oak barriques, it is a full-bodied, dry style (3 grams/litre of residual sugar), with strong, ripe, passionfruit-like flavours to the fore. Very fresh, lively and tangy, it has a touch of complexity and an appetisingly crisp finish. Four Stars.” 4 Stars Michael Cooper Wine Reviews
Aroma
A powerful wine which maintains elegance. Creamy, limey notes contribute to a sense of vibrancy and vivacity. The strong aromatic, tropical (guavas, feijoas) floral entry leads into a tight, assertive and textured mouthfeel with an intriguing flintiness and a wonderful juicy finish.
Palate
At Neudorf the pursuit of Sauvignon Blanc with elegance is a driving force and we use a small amount of barrel ferment to produce some richness in the wine without losing the distinctive cool climate freshness.
Food Matching
Drink it with fresh mussels cooked over an open fire, serve it with fresh oysters or crispy fish and chips (add a squeeze of lemon) and praise the fact you are in the South Pacific.
Neudorf Vineyards is regarded as one of New Zealand's finest boutique wineries. Exporting to 16 countries, their wine is listed at some the world's greatest restaurants.
Neudorf's home plantings spill down a gentle north-facing slope overlooking a side branch of the Moutere Valley at the top of New Zealand's South Island. They also grow grapes on the stony alluvial area between the Waimea and Wai-iti rivers at Brightwater, on the Waimea plains south of Nelson.
Vineyard management is driven by the winemaker's desire for ripe flavours and concentrated fruit. A combination of high plant density (up to 5000 vines/hectare) and low production (down to one kilo per vine for Pinot Noir) helps achieve the quality of fruit to create long-lived, intense but elegant wines. New clonal material is consistently being evaluated.
