Hand picked from the famous Markos Vineyard in Woodside. The fruit was handpicked into half tonne bins and stored for 24 hours in cool rooms. It was then gently whole bunch pressed to tank. Wild fermented in a tank at low temperatures to preserve the delicate flavours. The nose and palate display white peach, lemon curd and the palate lingers with balanced acidity typical of the vintage

MARKO’s Vineyard was established in 1994 by Mark and Margie Hill Smith. The single vineyard is one of Australia’s most respected producers of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay and more recently Shiraz and Pinot Gris.

Situated in the Adelaide Hills just outside the town of Woodside at an elevation of 410 metres.Total plantings – 27.8 ha with a variety of soil types ranging from shaly, sandy, free-draining, high in iron stone and quartz to deep sandy loams hosting four different grape varieties, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Pinot Gris (four different clones of Chardonnay, I10V1, Bernard 76, Mendoza and Bernard 95). Our parcels of fruit receive high input viticulture, hand-pruning, shoot thinning, lateral thinning, leaf plucking, bunch-thinning, multiple wire lifts to manage the canopy, low cropping levels and hand-picking. Our holistic viticulture approach includes running sheep in the vineyard in the winter to minimise the use of sprays and soil compaction. .

Matthew Hill Smith (Sixth Generation) was born at Yalumba, South Australia where he developed his passion for the wine and food business at an early age. Matthew began his career with Yalumba working in all facets of the business. After changes in the business Matthew moved to Queensland and opened Pier Nine Restaurant, that went on to win the prestigious Gourmet Traveller three hats over four consecutive years. Matthew and Pier Nine were inducted into the American Express Hall of Fame, acknowledged by the Queensland Government and the Queensland Oyster Growers Association for his undying contribution to both the restaurant industry and the seafood industry in Queensland. .

Christobel Hill Smith (Seventh Generation) is studying a Bachelor of Media Communications and Public Relations at QUT. Christobel is instrumental within the business, creating packaging, branding, web design and running the social media campaigns. .
