In beating the best from notable Cabernet regions such as Margaret River and Coonawarra, this wine has cemented the Hilltops region's place in the top echelon of Caberent viticultural precincts in Australia. The colour is dense while the aroma is wonderfully lifted with dark berry fruits, cedar and floral notes. The tannins are polished and refined with a gravelly texture reminiscent of Bordeaux. The product of a truly outstanding vintage.

Expert Reviews

Bright, clear crimson; the wine has a very fragrant bouquet, with cassis to the fore just as it is on the finely structured, juicy, palate. There is also a subtext of cedary oak and some dried herbs that are strongly varietal. Rating 95 - Drink by 2028, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (APR/2015).

Winery Tasting Notes

2013's dry spring and summer have resulted in a low yield - just over an acre of intensely concentrated fruit. The powerful palate delivers a complex array of bright cassis, black olive and sage flavours integrated with fine oak and ripe supple tannins.

Hilltops is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting viticultural regions in Australia. Australia’s most influential wine commentator James Halliday has hailed the Hilltops as one of the two most significant emerging cool climate wine regions in Australia. Viticulturally, the region can be summarised as "Barossa meets the Grampians"; power and concentration with elegance and finesse.

Moppity Vineyards s is a flagship producer of the Hilltops region and recently rocketed to prominence having claimed some of the most coveted prizes in winemaking, both in Australia and overseas.

The 170 acre vineyard sits at the highest elevation in the Hilltops and the 37 year old vines are among the oldest in the region. Moppity vineyards won over 90 trophies and medals since 2009 and produced fruit for the ’09 Jimmy Watson winner. No wonder Campbell Mattinson has heralded Moppity as “a rising star of top-end Australian wine”.
