Expert Reviews

Bright, clear colour; the fragrant mix of red fruits, spice and forest on the bouquet leads into a silky, mouthwatering palate, with red fruits, fine tannins and precisely calibrated French oak all contributing to its balance and length. Has developed with aplomb over the last six months, now a picture of elegance.

Rating 96 - Drink by 2018 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (AUG/2012)

Now denoted as grown on the McIntyre Vineyard, as it’s always been. Wild yeast fermented. All whole bunches. Personality laden.

A wonderful pinot noir in its style. Full of undergrowth and dark cherry, smoky stalks and gum leaf. Rich but well mannered, wild and funky but measured and tannic through the finish. The appeal is immediate, and yet complexity is its strongest suit. Quite an amazing release from Moorooduc Estate.

Rating 95 - Drink 2014 - 2020+ Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front (DEC/2012)

Winery Tasting Notes

Deep ruby garnet in colour

Dark, exotic aromatics of black cherries, Moroccan spice and earthy complexity.

On the palate the wine combines intense dark fruit, with a coolness and freshness that we have come to expect from The Moorooduc Pinot Noir. Far too young but very alluring even now.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Established in 1981 by Richard and Jill McIntyre, Moorooduc Estate is a small, family-run wine business that has developed an enviable reputation for complex and food friendly wines.

Their philosophy in everything they do is to make the most of top quality ingredients. Intensive, hands-on care in the vineyard, with minimal use of chemicals, produces the best possible fruit for their wines. Wild yeast ferments and minimal intervention winemaking, with a nod to traditional Burgundian techniques, allow their wines to express their site specificity, or terroir.

In 2010 Richard and Jill's daughter Kate McIntyre attained a title of Master of Wine.
