Print Shiraz is the pinnacle of Mitchelton winemaking, honouring the noble red variety originating in the Rhone Valley. The most exceptional fruit is carefully selected from the oldest vines on the Estate for inclusion in Print Shiraz. Dry-grown and meticulosuly hand tended, the vines produce small and intensely flavoured berries which are carefully nurtured to create this finest and most distinctive example of Central Victorian Shiraz.
The familiar 'in Woos Wood' label adorning each bottle of Print Shiraz is a window into the artisan qualities applied in the crafting of the wine.
- VIC - Other Victorian
Made from the oldest vines growing at Mitchelton in the Nagambie Lakes region of central Victoria.
New toasty, vanillin oak sits snug in both plush plum-shot fruit and savoury, seaweed characters. It’s a big, smooth-skinned, warm red but a wealth of tannin brings a strict discipline to it. A long life in the cellar lies ahead. Twiggy, minerally (and gently briny) notes hang about the edges. It’s not a great deal of fun as a young wine but given time to mature it should become so. Rating 92+, Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front (SEP/2014)
Winery Tasting Notes
Print Shiraz is a finely boned wine which balances the power of fruit and a delicacy of structure.
Intense deep purple, violet hues.
This wine opens with complex aromas of mulberry, cherry and christmas pudding peppered with spicy star anise, cedar and cocoa powder.
Rich, opulent fruits of plum, mulberry and strawberry marry with cinnamon bark, licorice and clove overtones. These powerful and persistent flavours melt together with rich chocolatey mouthcoating tannins that will evolve and soften over the next 10-20 years.
