Overview

It’s wonderfully concentrated and sweet but in no way cloying, managing to combine richness with vitality and texture with zing. This vintage is a little more intense, mouth-filling and flavoursome – partially due to the influence of botrytis cinerea mould, a first for Cordon Cut.

Expert Reviews

There’s now a twist to one of Australia’s most reliable sweet rieslings, with the cool 11 season lending a spicier and more peppery edge than ever. There’s a hint of greengage plum and preserved lemon to its familiar fleshy peach, fig and pear fruit and unctuous, honeyed finish. Enticingly atypical. Drink 2011-2021Rating 94 - Tyson Stelzer, Wine Taste Weekly Edition (SEP/2011)

This, one of Australia’s top sweeties, is renowned for its fleetness of foot and bell clear purity of zesty lime fruit. In 2011, a touch of botrytis brings the texture and tang of wild honey and salted limes. With its marvellous synergy of sweet, savoury and sour, it’s compellingly complex, long and lingering. Ab fab - the best yet, despite having just been flown over (with Toole) and used as a door stopper at her hotel!Sarah Ahmed, The Wine Detective (UK) (9/SEP/2011)

Orange marmalade and fresh vanilla notes lift a most appealing aroma.

These aromas carry through to the palate, augmented with lemon curd and mineral-flint tones, a clear, bright sherbet-like tang and incredible length of flavour.

Mount Horrocks Wines is operated by proprietor / winemaker Stephanie Toole, who restricts production to approximately 4,500 cases per annum to achieve her aims of quality and single vineyard expression. With an emphasis on sustainable natural farming and organic practices, Mount Horrocks Wines has vineyards at three sites totalling 10 hectares in the Clare Valley.

Stephanie carefully crafts her wines, which she describes as “essentially hand made food wines with emphasis on structure as well as generous fruit flavours”. All grapes are hand picked, and only the finest French oak is used for those wines spending time in barrel.
