The single vineyard range stems from our deep respect for the soil and belief in maintaining its integrity through to the bottle. Sustainably grown, handpicked fruit undergoes natural fermentation and maturation in fine French Oak without additions. This produces an honest wine, combining influences of site and season to express a unique personality.

Expert Reviews

Another cracking wine from this special vineyard. Slightly less textural and rich than the previous vintage but still with stacks in there. Minerally pure fruit with a trace of white peach and flinty grapefruit. Light floral fragrances on the nose with a precise refinement and beautifully elegant palate. Rating 94 - Ray Jordan, The West Australian Wine Guide 2015

Whole-bunch pressed, small batch wild yeast fermentation and maturation in old oak and concrete tanks. Bottle maturation for five or so years should bring complexity into play. 13.5% alc; screwcap. Drink to 2023. Rating 93 - James Halliday, The Weekend Australian

Winery Tasting Notes

Our oldest vines have produced an alluring and powerful example of Margaret River Chardonnay.

Aromas of ripe loquat and peach flesh give way to nuances of fresh pineapple and light brioche dough.

The palate is multi-layered with ripe peach, crème caramel and underlying natural ferment characters. Textural layers are supported by persistent mineral acidity, combining power and grace.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

McHenry Hohnen Vintners was established in 2004 and is a venture between pioneer Margaret River winemaker David Hohnen and his brother-in-law and vine-grower, Murray McHenry.

Their aim is to produce a range of wines which truly reflect their site and varietal origins with all the grapes for the venture sourced from family owned vineyards in the southern part of the region.

McHenry Hohnen vineyards are cared for according to the time honoured principle of common sense. Through recognising the importance of soil biology, healthy vines are grown, which in turn, produce grapes to create wines which are expressive of their particular site. The approach to winemaking is simple – close observation, careful nurturing, with minimal intervention. The resulting wines show outstanding varietal and vineyard integrity, with balance, harmony and great character.

The wines produced by McHenry Hohnen reflect Margaret River's strong suit with Chardonnay and Bordeaux varieties, along with a focus on alternative varieties which are performing very well in the region's Mediterranean climate – Zinfandel, Roussanne, Marsanne, Mataro and Grenache.

Winemaking is handled by Trent Carroll, with mentoring and support from David Hohnen.
