Expert Reviews

A soft, supple and ripe red, with a welcoming texture that underlines the generous blackberry and black currant flavors, which are shaded with coffee on the finish. Drink now through 2016.' Rating 89 - Harvey Steiman,

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2011 The Maitre D Cabernet Sauvignon offers a classic Cabernet character with pronounced cassis, cedar and mint notes over hints of chocolate and mincemeat. Voluptuous and opulent in the mouth, it packs-in the fruit with a medium level of finely grained tannins, refreshing acid and a long chocolaty finish. Delicious now, it should keep to 2016.

Botrytis wiped out Mollydooker’s Adelaide Hills and Langhorne Creek vineyards in 2011 yet the top vineyards in McLaren Vale were largely unaffected. The vintage yielded moderate heat, not nearly as hot as the previous vintages, and although the Scooter Merlot could not be made in 2011, other wines in the Mollydooker did not miss a beat. Rating 87 - Drink to 2016 Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, (DEC/2012)

Winery Tasting Notes

I love this Cabernet for its sweet varietal fruit and the generous, creamy mouth feel. It is seamlessly balanced with smooth tannins, integrated spicy notes and intense fruit characters of fresh raspberries, black current, nutmeg and cloves, followed up with the power of licorice, black cherry and vanilla. It is so good!

Dark cherry red, with a deep violet hue

This is an incredibly aromatic varietal Cabernet. Showing great intensity with bright berry fruits and mashed raspberry, together with licorice spice and espresso coffee.

The palate is vibrant and fresh, building with layers of fruit, toasty oak and fine Cabernet tannins. It finishes with hints of anise spice, dark cocoa and cassis fruit.
