Expert Reviews

“The wine opens with red-purple colour and is full of attractive plum and blackberry fruit on the bouquet, leading into a strongly textured and structured palate, with black fruits, licorice, pepper and spice all woven through quite strong tannins. It has the balance to age very well, and needs to be left alone for 2-3 years, then drink it over a decade.”Rating 92 - James Halliday Wine Companion 2013

"All the flavours here are in beautiful working order. Fresh cherries and black plums, woody spices and creamy, coffeed vanilla. Oak and fruit and chewy tannin all work in harmony. It’s not a blockbusterstyle shiraz, but it’s not what you’d call whimpy either. It has a sturdiness but most especially is has a lively drinkability. It’s one for the buy list. Drink 2012-2016.” 91 Points Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

Winery Tasting Notes

A rich, dark, cherry red wine with great colour density.

The wine displays aromas of black pepper spice, ripe plum compote, five spice powder and toasty oak.

This full-bodied wine is driven by concentrated fruit flavours of chocolate and black morello cherries which are complexed by subtle savoury textures and fine, soft tannins.

Will drink well now and will develop complex aging characters of rich earth, leather and forest floor over the next 5 years.

About Us

The MadFish story begins in the far southern reaches of Western Australia where 15 kilometres from the quiet coastal town of Denmark is the picturesque Madfish Bay. According to local folklore, the bay’s tranquillity is broken when two tides meet. The fish confused by this natural phenomenon, can be observed leaping in the air as if in a state of complete madness.

Our Label

The artwork for the label was originally designed by the late Maxine Fumagalli, a Noongar artist from Western Australia’s Great Southern, who had a deep love for the land and the people of the South-West region.

Her designs reflect the Aboriginal understanding that there is unity between land, sea, stars, animals and people, hence the inclusion of all elements in the label’s design.

The traditional aboriginal water turtle design on the label is a symbol of perserverance and tolerance - no doubt characteristics displayed by the fish in MadFish Bay.
