Overview

Across the temperate south west of Western Australia, the winter of 2015 was typically dry and mild yet sufficiently wet enough to fill catchments. The spring, less blustery than preceding years and the start to summer, warm to hot. All in all, a promising start. As summer progressed, the early warmth suggested a rapid fire, short vintage. Then in the third week of January, this prediction was derailed by an unprecedented deluge. The rain proved to be more blessing than curse, due to the dryness of the soil profile and the timing of the event.

Winery Tasting Notes

Aroma & Palate

The 2016 MadFish Rosé skilfully runs the gauntlet between lively and engaging fruit sweetness on the front palate and a drier, refreshing finish, which makes the wine eminently drinkable. Strawberry, raspberry, and pomegranate aromas, meld with subtle floral and sweet spice notes. A present but soft acidity spreads these fresh fruit flavours across the palate and provides ample length. A clean, fresh, modern style. Enjoy now and over the next 2 years

About Us

The MadFish story begins in the far southern reaches of Western Australia where 15 kilometres from the quiet coastal town of Denmark is the picturesque Madfish Bay. According to local folklore, the bay’s tranquillity is broken when two tides meet. The fish confused by this natural phenomenon, can be observed leaping in the air as if in a state of complete madness.

Our Label

The artwork for the label was originally designed by the late Maxine Fumagalli, a Noongar artist from Western Australia’s Great Southern, who had a deep love for the land and the people of the South-West region.

Her designs reflect the Aboriginal understanding that there is unity between land, sea, stars, animals and people, hence the inclusion of all elements in the label’s design.

The traditional aboriginal water turtle design on the label is a symbol of perserverance and tolerance - no doubt characteristics displayed by the fish in MadFish Bay.
