Expert Reviews

A blend of Bordeaux varieties cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot from West Australian regions including the Great Southern, Margaret River, Geographe and the Blackwood Valley, this is far more than the sum of its parts; a ripe, juicy red that has been released fully mature and has that great intangible: drinkability. You've got to love the funky label, too. A terrific - and affordable wine for everyday enjoyment.

Winsor Dobbin, Launceston Sunday Examiner, (11/MAR/2012)

4 Stars - "A big, concentrated Cabernet that's sweet, balanced and flavoursome with tarry notes on the nose and good palate weight and length."

Winestate Magazine, (May/June 2012)

Winery Tasting Notes

Grape Varieties

75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot

The 2009 MadFish Premium Red has a bright dark crimson red colour of great intensity.

The wine jumps from the glass with aromatic black cherry, blueberry and chocolate characters.

These characters continue on to the palate with complex flavours of roasted coffee beans, mulberries and savoury dusty tannins. The palate is rich and mouthfilling with seamless oak and well balanced acidity.

Cellaring Potential

The wine will benefit from 6 to 8 months maturation in bottle to allow the fruit to emerge; secondary characters will develop over a 2 to 5 year period when stored under optimum cellaring conditions.

About Us

The MadFish story begins in the far southern reaches of Western Australia where 15 kilometres from the quiet coastal town of Denmark is the picturesque Madfish Bay. According to local folklore, the bay’s tranquillity is broken when two tides meet. The fish confused by this natural phenomenon, can be observed leaping in the air as if in a state of complete madness.

Our Label

The artwork for the label was originally designed by the late Maxine Fumagalli, a Noongar artist from Western Australia’s Great Southern, who had a deep love for the land and the people of the South-West region.

Her designs reflect the Aboriginal understanding that there is unity between land, sea, stars, animals and people, hence the inclusion of all elements in the label’s design.

The traditional aboriginal water turtle design on the label is a symbol of perserverance and tolerance - no doubt characteristics displayed by the fish in MadFish Bay.
