The aim for this Chardonnay is to retain a fresh structure with a complex palate. They therefore minimise the malolactic fermentation so that it is really the vineyards fruit, wild ferment and barrel characters that make up the complex nose and palate.

This fruit comes from four vineyards; the one hectare vineyard of Bruce and Beverley Cook, the Taylor Vineyard which is in the Rapaura area and run organically, the Twin Valleys vineyard, which they have been working with since 2003 and a very small amount of recently planted Clone 1066 from the Mahi home block in front of the winery.

Winery Tasting Notes

Elegant and rich, this is a finely balanced and very subtle wine. Rich and ripe flavours, a hint of butterscotch and a slightly creamy texture help to give nice weight and finish.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

This year Brian Bicknell celebrates the making of his twenty-forth vintage, an achievement that has seen him accumulate experience in not only Marlborough, but also in Chile, France and Hungary.

Returning to Marlborough permanently in 1996, Brian identified that individual sites within the region produced markedly different characters. At a time when Marlborough was considered to be producing wines that hid the diversity of the region, Mahi was born. Brian’s vision to showcase the differences and complexities that these terroirs offer, has been exceeded with every single vineyard release.
