Food Matching

Served well chilled, Louis Roederer Carte Blanche is a delicious dessert wine. Wonderfully luscious but refreshing served alone, or to accompany fresh fruit glaces (ice creams); bavarois with fruit, poached pears in Champagne, almond pastries and fresh cream desserts served with fruit or light caramel such as panna cotta.

Wine Background

The upheavals of the beginning of the 20th century, in particular the First World War which destroyed more than half of the Louis Roederer estate, led Leon Olry Roederer to reconstruct his total vineyard. To ensure continuity during the crisis period, Leon Olry Roederer also began to purchase grapes for the first time. Carte Blanche incorporates all three Champagne grape varieties from more than 40 different plots.

The wine is an assemblage of 6 years of harvest, 5% of which are matured in oak casks with weekly batonnage and 10% coming from the Louis Roederer Reserve Wines, wines from previous great vintages which have been matured in oak casks for several years. The Carte Blanche remains on lees for 3 years in the Louis Roederer cellars, and is rested for 6 months after disgorgement prior to release. The dosage is 45 gms per litre.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Champagne Louis Roederer, founded in 1776, remains one of the very rare family Champagne businesses. For two centuries, six succeeding generations have been inspired by the same concern for quality. Frederic Rouzaud took up the reins in early 2006 from his father Jean-Claude Rouzaud who remains Chairman of the Board. Jean-Claude, grandson of Madame Camille Olry-Roederer and himself a trained Oenologist had led the company for 38 years, and is referred to as the 'Sage' of Champagne (the wise man of Champagne).

Frederic has spent the past 10 years working with his father in all areas of production and business and will bring his great business acumen and academic background to the company. Louis Roederer is unique in Champagne owning two-thirds of the vineyards for their total production covering the Pinot Noir sub regions of "Montagne de Reims" and "Vallee de la Marne" with Chardonnay from the "Cotes des Blanc". By 1995, recent acquisitions had increased Louis Roederer's holding from 180 hectares to almost 190 hectares, ranking 97.5% on the offi cial classifi cation scale.
