Winery Tasting Notes

Grape Varietals

Pinot Noir 60%, Chardonnay 40%

A salmon pink hue, with radiant highlights and incredible youth. The mousse is consistent, refi ned and lively.

An intense, rich, bewitching bouquet of red fruit and citrus zest mingled with more complex notes redolent of cedar. The aromas evolve gently in the glass from dried fruits, fresh almonds and frangipane, to notes of Tarte Tatin, oven-baked apples and caramel.

The wine is creamy and silky on the palate with a marvelous harmony of fl avour and concentration of fruit. The attack is fruity and crisp. Finesse and fruit combine to create a full palate that melts in the mouth, giving way to candied citrus and dried fruits.

Food Matching

Serve well chilled. Richly perfumed, Louis Roederer Cristal Brut 2000 is an exquisite aperitif or celebratory champagne and an excellent accompaniment to delicate dishes such as fi sh and shellfi sh, caviar, hors d’oeuvres, white meats and poultry.

Winemaking Notes

Cristal Rosé is supremely fragile and difficult to produce, due to the unpredictable evolution of the pink colour from the time of bottling to marketing some six or seven years later. (Cristal Rosé requires 5 years maturation on lees and 6 months in bottle following disgorgement). At the House

of Louis Roederer Cristal Rosé is made according to the traditional skin-contact method by which the Pinot Noir grapes remain in contact with the must until fermentation begins even up to 5-8 days. 20% of the overall blend is vinifi ed in oak barrels with weekly batonnage. There is no malolactic fermentation.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Champagne Louis Roederer, founded in 1776, remains one of the very rare family Champagne businesses. For two centuries, six succeeding generations have been inspired by the same concern for quality. Frederic Rouzaud took up the reins in early 2006 from his father Jean-Claude Rouzaud who remains Chairman of the Board. Jean-Claude, grandson of Madame Camille Olry-Roederer and himself a trained Oenologist had led the company for 38 years, and is referred to as the 'Sage' of Champagne (the wise man of Champagne).

Frederic has spent the past 10 years working with his father in all areas of production and business and will bring his great business acumen and academic background to the company. Louis Roederer is unique in Champagne owning two-thirds of the vineyards for their total production covering the Pinot Noir sub regions of "Montagne de Reims" and "Vallee de la Marne" with Chardonnay from the "Cotes des Blanc". By 1995, recent acquisitions had increased Louis Roederer's holding from 180 hectares to almost 190 hectares, ranking 97.5% on the offi cial classifi cation scale.
