Expert Reviews

“Heady, scented wine with the aroma of dark cherries, plum and anise. Those flavours follow through into the palate where I detect a subtle floral influence. Wonderfully concentrated PiNot Noir with an impressively sumptuous texture and lingering finish.” Rating 93 - 5 Star - Bob Campbell MW - Bobswinereviews.com

Dark and dense, with highly concentrated dark berry, plum and herb flavours. Rich and velvety, with earthy, savoury notes and the structure to mature well over the long haul. Winestate Magazine NZ Pinot Noir tasting – issue Nov-Dec 2011

“Full, dark, deep ruby-red in colour with purple hues, this has a fresh, bright, up-front and fragrant bouquet of red berry and cherry aromas with herb nuances, and seems to yet have more to unfold. Sweet, ripe dark raspberry and cherry flavours with depth and concentration show on the palate. The plush fruit is balanced by fine-grained, supple tannins and moderate, soft acidity. Possessing good depth and weight, this will keep well over the next 4-6+ years and match Asian and Middle Eastern duck and pork dishes. 17.5+/20 Apr 2011 Raymond Chan www.raymondchanwinereviews.co.nz

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Deep in the south of New Zealand and surrounded by mountain ranges is Central Otago New Zealand's smallest but fastest growing wine region and home to some of the finest vineyards in the country. Central Otago has a continental climate hot summers and long cold winters and in small pockets of the region the combination of microclimate and unique soil conditions are perfect for growing the fickle Pinot Noir grape. The Pinot Noirs from Central Otago have been rapidly gaining international acclaim.

Lowburn Ferry is the area surrounding an historic ferry crossing over the mighty Clutha River. A picturesque lake now occupies the ferry site at the base of the Lowburn Valley and vineyards abound on the surrounding glacial terraces where goldminers once toiled in the hot Otago sun.

Nestled on a sheltered north facing terrace in the Lowburn Valley beneath the Pisa Range is Lowburn Ferry Vineyard, a family owned vineyard dedicated to the production of high quality Pinot Noir wine. The vines are hand tended to maximise the benefits of the unique terroir and microclimate.
