The season was particularly cool up to mid January but warmed up with a vengeance in the ripening months of February and March to finish fully ripe by the 28th of March when the harvest took place.

There was exceptional flavour in the Marsanne fruit – it tasted quite honeyed and sweet. The Roussanne retained its reticence and freshness and so made, in my mind an immediate partner for the ultimate marriage with the Marsanne. The Roussanne percentage was about 34% so the highest yet.

The wine was co-fermented after pressing and settling in oak. This year I increased the component of new barrels to nearly 20% as the depth and balance of the juice looked just made for an age-able wine. It was then matured for 11 months with regular lees stirring and bottled in late February 2010. The blend was 66% Marsanne 34% Roussanne.

Only 340 cases were produced.

Winery Tasting Notes

Fresh honeyed aromas and touches of dried fruit with some fullness and richness on the palate and an aftertaste with flavours much like the scent of almond blossom.

Though some new oak was used in the making and maturation, oak flavours are not a feature of this wine but serve to intensify and set the palate up for long term aging.
