In 1994 we established new plantings of Pinot Noir on our Kumeu Estate with the aim of producing red wine to rival the quality of our Kumeu River Chardonnay. To this end only the best new planting material available from Burgundy was chosen, and grafted onto extremely low-vigour rootstocks to limit the yield and intensify the flavour of this wonderfully aristocratic grape variety.

Winery Tasting Notes
This Village wine is the second label to the Kumeu River label and as such display many of the distinctive Kumeu River complexities and characteristics, but are more suitable for current consumption.
2010 was a very small vintage due to spring frost and the subsequent yield o Pinot Noir was tiny. This has resulted in very vibrant, ripe and even at the Village level quite concentred Pinot Noir. After selecting the vineyard we wanted for the Estate Pinot Noir we blended the remaining vineyards to produce this delicious Village wine.
The aromas are delightful and this pretty nature continues onto the palate which is silky and crisp and will be terrific to drink over the next 2-3 years
