Winter rains during 2012 set up our subsoils perfectly with some of the highest levels of moisture seen in recent years. Summer arrived a little late and the vine canopies were in perfect shape for the little burst of heat we received during January. The 2013 Adelaide Hills vintage yielded awesome quality, with weather conditions during February and March perfect cool nights and warm days ideal for ripening.
It’s rare to find such an excellent chardonnay at this price these days. Like many McLaren Vale wineries Kangarilla Road has been increasingly sourcing it’s chardonnay from the Hills. The colour is light- medium straw-yellow; the bouquet is impressively complex with nutty, straw-like and stone-fruit aromas plus subtle almond-meal notes. It’s very appealing. Some smokiness from oak is subtly evident. Intense and driving on the tongue with bright acidity, firm grip and aftertaste, and good depth of fruit flavour. Best drinking now to 2017, 12.5% Alcohol. 91/100. Food: mixed roasted nuts; fish and chips; salt and pepper calamari Stockist: Camperdown Cellars Stores Rating 91 - Huon Hooke, Sydney Morning Herald
Aroma
Complex aromas of white peach, nectarine with lemon and lime zest with hints of cashew.
Palate
The aromatics flow nicely onto the palate and is is full of complex zesty citrus with an integrated creamy mid palate texture and long fine acid minerality give this wine incredible length.
Kangarilla Road winery is a partnership between Kevin and Helen O’Brien. While the wines show the generosity of the McLaren Vale region, they also have a unique Kangarilla Road style, the white wines fragrant and aromatic and the reds an elegant expression of their variety. The Kangarilla Road philosophy remains unchanged: “To produce wines that we enjoy drinking – wines that can be enjoyed with or without food and especially with friends.”
