The cooler ripening conditions of the 2014 vintage were the perfect fit in the desire to create a crisp, refreshing style of Rosé. Crafted in homage to the lighter, savoury styles of the famous Rosé of Southern France, this wine blends the flavours of delicate rose petal, subtle cherry notes and a hint of savouriness on the finish with cleansing zesty acidity, making it an excellent accompaniment to a large range of lighter food dishes.

Expert Reviews

Tasty and tangy with musky, raspberried fruit and apple-like acidity running the length. Finishes crisp/dry but remains pretty throughout. CM - Australian Wine Companion, Rating 90, 27th July 2015

Winery Tasting Notes

Brilliant clarity but possessing a very pale pink to salmon colour from its saignée method of vinification.

Subtle hints of rose petal, cherry plum and savoury spices combine delicately on the nose.

A classic refreshing Rosé styled palate, the rose petal and cherry plum notes and hints of savoury kitchen spices perfectly balance its naturally positioned acidity. A wine to enjoy in the vibrancy of its youth but will benefit from 1 – 2 years careful cellaring.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Kilikanoon Wines is a boutique winery with an international reputation, located in the heart of South Australia’s stunning Clare Valley. Since 1997 and his first Clare Valley vintage, founder and winemaker Kevin Mitchell has produced wines of individuality with strong regional and varietal definition. Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and now Hermitage terroir is all important, especially for their Shiraz, Riesling, Grenache and Cabernet single varietals.

Like many Australia winemakers Kevin Mitchell is highly trained in both the scientific and artistic sides of winemaking. He also comes from a long tradition of grape growing in South Australia’s beautiful Clare Valley, where grapes have been grown and wine made since the 1850s.

The first Kilikanoon release was in 1998, with 1997 vintage Shiraz, Cabernet, Grenache and two 1998 Rieslings. Since that time Kevin has continually refined his skills and has produced a wide portfolio of Kilikanoon wines from some of Australia’s finest terroir.

Kilikanoon’s philosophy is to make the best wines from the best grapes, no matter where they are, so recently we went to France! We make wine in two regions- the Loire Valley and the Rhône Valley.

In late 2007 Kilikanoon, along with partners Janet Holmes à Court and Greg and Kerrie Paramor acquired Seppeltsfield in the Barossa Valley, one of Australia’s most revered and historic wineries, established in 1851 and the home to one of the world’s finest collections of barrel-aged fortified wines, including the unique unbroken collection of Vintage dated 100 year old Para Tawny (port) dating back to 1878, when the first wines were laid down, not to be bottled for 100 years. They are delighted to celebrate our first decade. The next looks to be just as exciting.
