The Asset Collection illustrates a range of wines that showcase regional and varietal diversity.

Since 1997, with the exception of the 2011 vintage, Kilikanoon has released an Oracle Shiraz. The simple brief behind this annual landmark offering; to capture the very essence of the Clare Valley's famous terroir, its unique provenance and its enduring qualities. Crafted from old vine fruit grown along the golden hillside in Leasingham, it continues to display the opulence, regional character and varietal power the valley is so renown for.

Expert Reviews

Interesting release. The flavour profile is slightly different to what you might imagine and/or expect. There's a thick stream of licorice, blackberry, cloves and sappy, cedary oak, but the unexpected appears in the form of truffle, heightened blackcurrant and leather notes. It doesn't lessen the wine; it makes it distinctive. Importantly, at all points this wine feels fresh and fine. Rating 94 - Drink by 2028, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (JAN/2015).

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2012 Shiraz Oracle has intense baked cassis and plums notes, some dried herbs plus earthy, bacon fat and smoke hints. Medium to full-bodied, it is a little green, leaner than ideal and hard in mouth with chewy / astringent tannins and a clipped finish. Rating 89 - Drink by 2020, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (JUL/2015).

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Kilikanoon Wines is a boutique winery with an international reputation, located in the heart of South Australia’s stunning Clare Valley. Since 1997 and his first Clare Valley vintage, founder and winemaker Kevin Mitchell has produced wines of individuality with strong regional and varietal definition. Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and now Hermitage terroir is all important, especially for their Shiraz, Riesling, Grenache and Cabernet single varietals.

Like many Australia winemakers Kevin Mitchell is highly trained in both the scientific and artistic sides of winemaking. He also comes from a long tradition of grape growing in South Australia’s beautiful Clare Valley, where grapes have been grown and wine made since the 1850s.

The first Kilikanoon release was in 1998, with 1997 vintage Shiraz, Cabernet, Grenache and two 1998 Rieslings. Since that time Kevin has continually refined his skills and has produced a wide portfolio of Kilikanoon wines from some of Australia’s finest terroir.

Kilikanoon’s philosophy is to make the best wines from the best grapes, no matter where they are, so recently we went to France! We make wine in two regions- the Loire Valley and the Rhône Valley.

In late 2007 Kilikanoon, along with partners Janet Holmes à Court and Greg and Kerrie Paramor acquired Seppeltsfield in the Barossa Valley, one of Australia’s most revered and historic wineries, established in 1851 and the home to one of the world’s finest collections of barrel-aged fortified wines, including the unique unbroken collection of Vintage dated 100 year old Para Tawny (port) dating back to 1878, when the first wines were laid down, not to be bottled for 100 years. They are delighted to celebrate our first decade. The next looks to be just as exciting.
