Another textbook vintage in the Clare Valley for Riesling. The mostly cool and dry conditions leading up to and during the harvest, promoting slow ripening, high natural acid retention and classic ageing potential.

Our 2013 Mort’s Reserve Riesling is a small blend of two unique vineyards, the higher elevated Khileyre site and the low yielding Walton’s vineyard, both strongly identifiable as from the Watervale district of the Clare Valley.

Expert Reviews

This is a hand-picked blend of the finest parcels from the Khileyre and Mort's Vineyards in the Watervale district. It is powerful and robust, and needs time to slim down, but patience will be rewarded. Rating 93 - Drink by 2025, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (SEP/2013)

Winery Tasting Notes

Brilliant in clarity, pale straw in colour with youthful green tints.

Lively notes of lemons, fresh citrus and garden perfumes overwhelm the nose, impressively overt yet still sublimely focused.

A riot of citrus peel, lemon zest and lively natural acidity come together on the palate. A true reserve styled experience, made to enjoy now or put down in the cellar for added complexity and interest.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Kilikanoon Wines is a boutique winery with an international reputation, located in the heart of South Australia’s stunning Clare Valley. Since 1997 and his first Clare Valley vintage, founder and winemaker Kevin Mitchell has produced wines of individuality with strong regional and varietal definition. Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and now Hermitage terroir is all important, especially for their Shiraz, Riesling, Grenache and Cabernet single varietals.

Like many Australia winemakers Kevin Mitchell is highly trained in both the scientific and artistic sides of winemaking. He also comes from a long tradition of grape growing in South Australia’s beautiful Clare Valley, where grapes have been grown and wine made since the 1850s.

The first Kilikanoon release was in 1998, with 1997 vintage Shiraz, Cabernet, Grenache and two 1998 Rieslings. Since that time Kevin has continually refined his skills and has produced a wide portfolio of Kilikanoon wines from some of Australia’s finest terroir.

Kilikanoon’s philosophy is to make the best wines from the best grapes, no matter where they are, so recently we went to France! We make wine in two regions- the Loire Valley and the Rhône Valley.

In late 2007 Kilikanoon, along with partners Janet Holmes à Court and Greg and Kerrie Paramor acquired Seppeltsfield in the Barossa Valley, one of Australia’s most revered and historic wineries, established in 1851 and the home to one of the world’s finest collections of barrel-aged fortified wines, including the unique unbroken collection of Vintage dated 100 year old Para Tawny (port) dating back to 1878, when the first wines were laid down, not to be bottled for 100 years. They are delighted to celebrate our first decade. The next looks to be just as exciting.
