The 2010 Barossa Valley vintage was generally warm and dry, allowing the old vine Shiraz to ripen slowly and evenly with no disease pressure. These ideal harvesting conditions and the unique single site location of our Green’s Vineyard instrumental in producing a Reserve Shiraz of deep colour and varietal intensity.

Maturation in 100% new French oak for twenty four months and bottling the wine unfined and unfiltered has ensured the preservation of the vineyard’s unique characters.

Expert Reviews

Deeply coloured, and showing vibrant aromas of black fruits, red licorice, sage, wet slate minerality and a generous dollop of spicy oak; the palate is thickly textured on entry, yet remains light on its feet, and whilst some warmth from high alcohol is noticeable, it merely complements the hedonistic fruit on offer. Rating 95 - Drink by 2025 - Ben Edwards, Wine Companion (MAR/2013)

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Kilikanoon Wines is a boutique winery with an international reputation, located in the heart of South Australia’s stunning Clare Valley. Since 1997 and his first Clare Valley vintage, founder and winemaker Kevin Mitchell has produced wines of individuality with strong regional and varietal definition. Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and now Hermitage terroir is all important, especially for their Shiraz, Riesling, Grenache and Cabernet single varietals.

Like many Australia winemakers Kevin Mitchell is highly trained in both the scientific and artistic sides of winemaking. He also comes from a long tradition of grape growing in South Australia’s beautiful Clare Valley, where grapes have been grown and wine made since the 1850s.

The first Kilikanoon release was in 1998, with 1997 vintage Shiraz, Cabernet, Grenache and two 1998 Rieslings. Since that time Kevin has continually refined his skills and has produced a wide portfolio of Kilikanoon wines from some of Australia’s finest terroir.

Kilikanoon’s philosophy is to make the best wines from the best grapes, no matter where they are, so recently we went to France! We make wine in two regions- the Loire Valley and the Rhône Valley.

In late 2007 Kilikanoon, along with partners Janet Holmes à Court and Greg and Kerrie Paramor acquired Seppeltsfield in the Barossa Valley, one of Australia’s most revered and historic wineries, established in 1851 and the home to one of the world’s finest collections of barrel-aged fortified wines, including the unique unbroken collection of Vintage dated 100 year old Para Tawny (port) dating back to 1878, when the first wines were laid down, not to be bottled for 100 years. They are delighted to celebrate our first decade. The next looks to be just as exciting.
