Clarry’s is a blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro with old vine Grenache from the 1940s and 1960s. The wine is fermented in open-top fermenters and basket pressed. To preserve the superb fresh fruit flavours of the wine, it was only aged in very old oak hogsheads and only for a limited time of one year. Clarry’s is soft and fruit-driven with flavours of raspberry, perfume, clove and spice. It is mouthwatering with a muscular structure and great length.

This wine is 100% Organic / Biodynamic as certified by Australian Certified Organic.

Expert Reviews

“2012 red released seven or so months from vintage (picked in April). Open top fermented, hand pumped, seven to fourteen days on skins. All old oak (hogsheads) for six months only. Small batches blended just prior to bottling. Biodynamic. And it tastes? Right in the groove. Grenache feels dominant. Raspberry, cranberry, cloves and loamy, sandy, earthen notes... Bright, bouncy, lipsmacking red. Oozes Barossa”. Drink: 2013 – 2017 Campbell Mattinson, the Wine Front, November14th 2012

“… the standout to me was Clarry’s GSM... it has superb juicy red fruits. There are savoury notes, too, along with a little spice while the finish is velvety and refined. It’s seen a little oak but it was all large format older barrels and only for six months. This is a far cry from the Barossa wines of old where oak dominated and the tannins were heavy. Clarry’s GSM is a sublime expression of the dense fruit flavours of the Barossa without the taint of too much wood…. A few bottles tucked away in the cellar would be a wise investment, too. The Kalleske family rate the 2012 vintage as one of their best yet and, judging from the quality

of their GSM, I couldn’t agree more”.Fergus McGhie, Canberra Times, December 8th 2012

“The previous 2011 release of this wine was named the international biodynamic wine of the year at the International Wine Challenge in the UK. Here, fresh and

bouncy, is the latest GSM release – red berry juicy and sweet, exotic, spicy, pure and simply slurpy, and blended with great clarity for easy drinking”. Food: Kebabs Tony Love, Daily Telegraph, November 6th 2012

Winery Tasting Notes

Clarry’s 2012 is deep purple-red in colour.

Emanating from the glass are attractive aromatics of raspberry, black cherry, rose perfume, clove spice, musk and milk chocolate.

The palate is round, full and juicy with plenty of red and black fruits. Tannins are extremely fine and add structure and texture to the seamless palate. Limited maturation in seasoned barrels has added complexity while respecting the fruit purity that is the hallmark of this wine. Clarry’s is very harmonious and is completed by a lengthy finish. This is an approachable, fruit-driven and opulent wine that is best enjoyed now or over the next five years.

Winery Profile

In South Australia's Barossa Valley, the Kalleske family have been farming and growing grapes since 1853 near the village of Greenock. They are one of the regions leading grape-growing families consistently growing some of the Barossa's best quality grapes. After six generations of growing grapes, winemaker and seventh generation family member, Troy Kalleske, together with his brother Tony, established the Kalleske winery and made the first ‘Kalleske’ wine. The winery is situated on the family estate where traditional winemaking techniques ensure the vineyard realises its full potential as wine.

The vineyard is managed by Troy's and Tony’s parents, John and Lorraine, and brother, Kym. John has over forty years experience tending the vineyard. The 120 acre vineyard is planted to Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon, Chenin Blanc, Mataro, Petit Verdot, Durif, Viognier, Tempranillo and Zinfandel. Vines vary in age with the oldest remaining vineyard dating back to 1875 and an overall average vine age of about 50 years. The vineyard is low yielding with grapes grown organically and biodynamically and the winery is also certified biodynamic/organic.

The Kalleske family are active practitioners of sustainable farming.
