Selective hand picking, gentle whole bunch pressing directly to barrel, wild or ‘free range’ yeast and no amelioration of the juice are all aimed at producing a complex yet naturally balanced wine with a cellaring potential of up to 10 years.
- WA - Margaret River
- Western Australia
Estate-grown in southern Margaret River, 53% Mendoza clone, 45% three Dijon clones; 100% barrel-fermented in French oak (15% new) with 8 months on lees. The complex, faintly flinty, bouquet is swept far away by the torrent of juicy nectarine, white peach and grapefruit flavours, oak simply to shape, not add to, the wine. Terrific value. Rating 94 - Drink by 2025, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (FEB/2015).
Juniper labels are loved by some, not liked so much by others. I like them.
Nectarine, bran, grapefruit, spicy vanilla oak in support. Medium bodied, maybe some pear in the mix, toasty barrel ferment and grapefruity acidity. Slightly chunky feel in the mid-palate, but the finish is spicy and awash with white peachy flavour. Rating 92 - Drink by 2023, Gary Walsh, winefront.com.au (MAR/2016).
Winery Tasting Notes
The nose offers floral spice lift followed by ripe white stone fruit and roasted cashew, subtle vanilla oak characters.
The palate is opulent while still being restrained by the fine oyster shell like natural acidity. The flavours are a complex mix of mouth watering citrus, pear, fleshy stone fruit, vanilla, almond meal, roasted cashew and crème brûlée.
Cellar up to 10 years.
Enjoy with grilled fish or white meats.
