The 2014 Juniper Crossing Tempranillo is grown in the Ferguson Valley situated north of the Margaret River wine region & is made as a bright fruit driven style with very moderate oak influence.

Expert Reviews

This is an interesting release. First sip, and I loved it. It’s fleshy, chewy, cherried and flashed with dried herb and leaf notes. Both country and western, so to speak. Savoury and sweet. I took it to the dinner table and it did itself proud, but the longer I sat with it the more I noticed how dry it was, and how there is a minor touch of game. I took that as complexity, and as part of its charm. But more technocratic drinkers mightn’t fall the same way. Personally, I reckon this is good. Rating 91 - Drink by 2020, Campbell Mattinson, (MAR/2016).

Winery Tasting Notes


Bright purple red.


This wine is bursting with red fruits such as raspberry, cherry and plum along with a lift of dried herbs, vanilla bean, mocha and a background cherry cola character.


The palate is succulent and dense with red berry fruit flavours along with red liquorice & backed up with spice and finishing with savoury fine dry tannins.

Cellaring Potential

It is a wine to enjoy now and for at least the next 5 years.

Juniper Estate is a producer of premium wines in Wilyabrup, the heart of the Margaret River winegrowing area. It is one of the oldest vineyards in the area. No sub-region has been historically more important in the success of Margaret River than Wilyabrup, where the first vineyards were planted and wineries built and which continues to be home to a disproportionately large number of famous, usually small, vineyards.


Mark Messenger has been the Winemaker at Juniper Estate since 1998. He has responsibility for production of all Juniper wines and is supported by an experienced team in the winery and the vineyard. Mark was Assistant Winemaker at Cape Mentelle, in Margaret River, from 1990 to 1998. Mark’s experience lies in producing premium Margaret River wines, using the best quality grapes, oak and other materials, and that is his mission at Juniper Estate.
