Overview

The 2016 vintage started early, but then settled down with picking dates for Chardonnay being some of the latest in recent years. The mild weather conditions allowed for slow ripening with ripe flavour profiles developing at lower than excepted sugar (Baume) levels. The resulting wine was made entirely from grapes grown on our southern Margaret River vineyard and has a wonderful array of bright fruit aromas and flavours. It is made as a carefree drinking style with modest complexity from barrel fermentation and lees stirring.

Aroma

A beautiful example of a contemporary Chardonnay showing a lovely fruit salad mix of melon, stone fruits, pear, apple, citrus, jasmine, and spice, plus vanilla ice cream topped with roasted almonds. The textural palate is smooth, fleshy, and juicy, while offering the full spectrum of fruit flavours.

Crisp, clean, natural acidity keeps the palate lively to the long finish.

Juniper Estate is a producer of premium wines in Wilyabrup, the heart of the Margaret River winegrowing area. It is one of the oldest vineyards in the area. No sub-region has been historically more important in the success of Margaret River than Wilyabrup, where the first vineyards were planted and wineries built and which continues to be home to a disproportionately large number of famous, usually small, vineyards.

Winemaker

Mark Messenger has been the Winemaker at Juniper Estate since 1998. He has responsibility for production of all Juniper wines and is supported by an experienced team in the winery and the vineyard. Mark was Assistant Winemaker at Cape Mentelle, in Margaret River, from 1990 to 1998. Mark’s experience lies in producing premium Margaret River wines, using the best quality grapes, oak and other materials, and that is his mission at Juniper Estate.
