Overview

“Top flight Marlborough pinot, lovely texture, some depth in the fruit and just starting to express itself as a classical wine. One of the best from the region and Isabel’s slightly different soil and terroir show perfectly in this wine. Very good stuff” Peter Saunders, F&B Magazine

Winery Tasting Notes

Aroma

Wow, this wine is gaining weight rapidly – with a nose of brandied cherries/kirsch liqueur, violets and lavender. Very lifted aromatics, indicating the power to come.

Palate

The palate, for a young Pinot Noir, is quite dense and full with flavours of spice and nutmeg, then a character of prosciutto ham is noticeable. The finish is long and fruit driven with fine, dry tannins and a little minerality – unmistakable Isabel family resemblance.

Food Matching

Great with a venison stew or braised lamb.

Cellaring

This wine will reward you with further time in the cellar or, for us less patient, one hour in a decanter before indulging!

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Isabel Estate Vineyard was established in 1982 to produce premium classical grape varieties in Marlborough. Prior to the 1994 vintage, Proprietor Michael Tiller, then an airline pilot with Air New Zealand, together with his wife Robyn, operated Isabel Estate successfully as a contract grape growing vineyard supplying some of Marlborough's leading wine producers with much sought after premium fruit.

The character and individuality of their fruit derived from a unique soil profile and vineyard location encouraged them to produce and market their own wine under the Isabel Estate label. This was regarded as the most natural of evolutionary steps.
