Overview

A bounty of rich aromas on the nose – everything is there: nectarine, white pear, clover, honey and subtle hints of coconut all on display. This wine has strong mineral definition, yet a supple mouth feeling and good length due to the gentle lees stirring. The palate is subtly complex with persimmon, red apple, a hint of white pepper and a faint suggestion of rose petal. Isabel has returned to the modern Alsatian style of Pinot Gris, hinting towards the drier and more mineral focused wine they are known for.

Expert Reviews

“Rich and full, this opulent pinot gris is filled with attractive peach, mango and floral with subtle spice complexity. It’s concentrated and ripe on the palate showing excellent weight and texture. The wine flows beautifully. At its best: now to 2016.” Rating 90 - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit 2014

”The estate-grown 2013 is a top vintage. Pale lemon/green, it is mouthfilling and fleshy, with a slightly oily texture and fresh, strong pear and lychee flavours, with hints of pears and lychees. A dryish style (5 grams/litre of residual sugar), it’s a drink-now or cellaring proposition.” 4 Stars - Michael Cooper, Buyers Guide to NZ Wines

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Isabel Estate Vineyard was established in 1982 to produce premium classical grape varieties in Marlborough. Prior to the 1994 vintage, Proprietor Michael Tiller, then an airline pilot with Air New Zealand, together with his wife Robyn, operated Isabel Estate successfully as a contract grape growing vineyard supplying some of Marlborough's leading wine producers with much sought after premium fruit.

The character and individuality of their fruit derived from a unique soil profile and vineyard location encouraged them to produce and market their own wine under the Isabel Estate label. This was regarded as the most natural of evolutionary steps.
