From the Porongurups in the Great Southern, this wine is in its second year of release.

The Porongurup Riesling is the finest cut of free juice from two of the oldest vineyard plantings in the Porongurup sub-region.

Both vineyards sit high on opposing shoulders of the volcanic outcrop that dominates the surrounding landscape.

The warm north facing site at an elevation of 333m provides intense citrus fruit character to the wine, while the south facing site at 226m and cooled by the breezes off the southern ocean provides a hint of delicacy, white blossom perfume and restraint.

Expert Reviews

"Some development evident in the straw-green colour, but this is a positive virtue given the intensity and complexity of the power of the lime and lemon palate, power amplified by the lingering acidity. Slightly atypical for Porongurup, offering so much now, but don’t look the gift horse in the mouth.” Rating 96 - Best of Riesling - James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion 2014

“Clean nose with a delicate floral backdrop, setting the scene for the tight minerality that hugs a palate showing rich lime and green apple that lingers long.” Rating 95 - David Prestipino - Sunday Times Magazine

“Delicacy is what great Riesling is all about and capturing that in the bottle is the winemakers’ challenge. This one has it in spades. The acidity is fantastic, the flavours of lime are pristine and the finish keeps giving. It suits fresh, subtly flavoured fish.”Greg Duncan-Powell - Herald Sun

“Quite simply, this is the finest Howard Park Riesling since the great 1997 release – and it is quite possibly superior to that. While being fresh and youthfully shy and restrained, it has enormous length, the only necessary hallmark for a great wine…This wine now typifies the West’s fruit quality and winemaking know how. With this wine’s elegant restraint, some may spend the next couple of years wondering if it has enough flavour and body. Despite the short-term restraint, the flavour is there in spades and it will develop marvellously as this wine evolves, as it will with ease, for over 20 years. This also has more appealing and softer edges than most Howard Park Rieslings. Pure and delicious.” Rating 18.7 Points - John Jens - Western Suburbs Weekly

Winery Tasting Notes

Crystalline, pale lime yellow in colour.

Perfumed, more so than scented, with citrus blossom and a hint of citrus oil richness.

Intense flavours of lemon lime citrus are washed with a shale-like minerality. A defining thread of fine liner acidity provides length and structure to finish the wine. This wine has great intensity, definition and length of flavour.

In its youth, the Porongurup Riesling is bracing and bright in style, full of abundant fresh fruit, a mineral texture and tight acidity. In time the wine will develop a nut praline and poached citrus richness whilst retaining its linear acidity and stone-like minerality. Howard Park Rieslings will cellar for more than 10 years.

Howard Park Wines was established in 1986 and was one of the original pioneers of the Great Southern region. The founding owner of Howard Park, John Wade ventured west to Western Australia's South West with one belief: "I don't know any other region where you can produce both Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon as premium wines". This founding belief began the journey of Howard Park.

Now over 20 years on, Howard Park remains a family owned winery under the guidance of Jeff and Amy Burch. With a philosophy to produce wines of distinct regional character with an uncompromising commitment to quality Howard Park has forged an international reputation for their wines and an expanded range including single vineyard and multi regional wines from Margaret River and the Great Southern.

"We have worked towards establishing Howard Park as a premium family wine company. This success will be measured by the work we do now for future generations."  Jeff Burch

Our Philosophy

This founding two region philosophy aligns with Howard Park's wine making philosophy which adopts an ethos for integrating the old with the new. Howard Park embraces modern technology whilst employing traditional wine making techniques and produces internationally recognised wines of the highest quality. As a result our Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz wines are only ever produced in very small quantities, but are noted for their rare balance of elegance and power with a proven history of ageing with increased complexity and interest.

"We have a simple philosophy; premium wine can only come from excellent fruit. Simply, we go to wherever the fruit grows best." Jeff Burch
