The wine is selected from only the best batches of free-run juice; these wines demonstrate great potential for slow ageing and the development of toasty complexity and greater mouth-feel.

Howard Park’s Great Southern Riesling is consistently rated as one of Australia’s best Rieslings. It is listed as Australia’s 4th most collected Riesling from a survey conducted by Wine Ark out of 3 million bottles of wine in cellars across the country. It also has a longstanding track record of being noted as ‘Outstanding’ in James Halliday’s annual Wine Companion.

Expert Reviews

"Bright, gleaming straw-green; filled with juicy lime fruit and crisp, crunchy acidity, the length a given; the aftertaste lingers, and echoes the flavours of the mid-palate. Lovely wine." Rating 96 - Best of Riesling - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2014

“Light, bright yellow hue and an expressive floral aroma with waxy notes and a tinge of lemon blossom. It’s intense, delicate and delicious in the mouth, with balanced acidity and seems softer and more accessible than some prior vintages. Very dry but smooth on the finish. Now to 2022." Rating 95 - Huon Hooke, Sydney Morning Herald

Winery Tasting Notes

Crystalline, pale lime yellow in colour

Intense and lifted aromas of freshly zested lemon/lime citrus.

The palate is full of fresh citrus, nashi pear and green skin apple flavours that give depth and richness. Whilst defined by these rich fruit flavours, the palate is guided by a fine, mineral and citrus acidity that adds length and finish to the wine. This wine has great intensity, richness, definition and length of flavour.

In its youth, the Great Southern Riesling is bright in style, full of abundant fresh fruit, a mineral texture and tight acidity. In time the wine will develop a nut praline and poached citrus and apple richness whilst retaining its linear acidity and stone-like minerality. Howard Park Rieslings will cellar for more than 10 years.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Howard Park Wines was established in 1986 and was one of the original pioneers of the Great Southern region. The founding owner of Howard Park, John Wade ventured west to Western Australia's South West with one belief: "I don't know any other region where you can produce both Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon as premium wines". This founding belief began the journey of Howard Park.

Now over 20 years on, Howard Park remains a family owned winery under the guidance of Jeff and Amy Burch. With a philosophy to produce wines of distinct regional character with an uncompromising commitment to quality Howard Park has forged an international reputation for their wines and an expanded range including single vineyard and multi regional wines from Margaret River and the Great Southern.

"We have worked towards establishing Howard Park as a premium family wine company. This success will be measured by the work we do now for future generations."  Jeff Burch

Our Philosophy

This founding two region philosophy aligns with Howard Park's wine making philosophy which adopts an ethos for integrating the old with the new. Howard Park embraces modern technology whilst employing traditional wine making techniques and produces internationally recognised wines of the highest quality. As a result our Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz wines are only ever produced in very small quantities, but are noted for their rare balance of elegance and power with a proven history of ageing with increased complexity and interest.

"We have a simple philosophy; premium wine can only come from excellent fruit. Simply, we go to wherever the fruit grows best." Jeff Burch
