Ravenswood Lane is the link between the Hollick Coonawarra Vineyards, namely Neilson’s Block.

First vintaged in 1988, Ravenswood is only released when the wine satisfies the very exacting quality parameters set by the Hollick team. The best parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Hollick vineyards are earmarked for Ravenswood and experience tells us that this fruit will typically come from the oldest vines growing in very shallow terra rossa soil.

Extremely limited quantities of this wine are made, and released only in years of excellence.

Expert Reviews

Very good colour, deep crimson-purple; high quality fruit and skilled winemaking act in tandem to produce an exemplary cabernet, with pure varietal characters showing why Coonawarra is so suited to the variety. Diam. Drink to 2016. Rating 95 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2010

Winery Tasting Notes

Dense crimson with purple hues at the rim.

Lifted and penetrating aromas of blackcurrants, plums, cassis and black olives.

A wine of genuine class with intense flavours of dark berry fruits and hints of dried herbs, menthol and chocolate oak, with integrated fine grained tannins.

Cellaring Potential

The established track record of this wine suggests that cellaring for 7-15 years is beneficial, although its soft tannins ensure that the wine is very approachable in its youth.

Food Matching

Complex and concentrated, the wine is best enjoyed with food. Our chef suggests a char-grilled steak fillet with a mushroom, pancetta and red wine glaze.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

The Hollick winery, cellar door and restaurant complex is established on "Neilson's Block", one of the original John Riddoch Coonawarra selections in the cool South East corner of South Australia.

Driven by quality and a hands-on approach, Hollick wines are made from three core vineyards. Neilson's Block, planted by Ian and Wendy in 1975, the nearby Wilgha vineyard, purchased in 1987 and the Red Ridge vineyard developed in 1998 at Wrattonbully, giving Hollick over 200 acres of vineyard in total. Eighty percent is planted to red varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese and Petit Verdot. The balance of the vineyards are planted to the white varieties of Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.

A historic cottage, which was restored by Ian and Wendy in 1983 is a feature of the entrance to the winery. Heritage listed and built in 1860, it was the birthplace of famous lyric poet John Shaw Neilson and was the original cellar door.
