The Heathcote region experienced a challenging yet fruitful 2010/11 growing season. Despite the highest rainfall on record for the past ten years, the fruit came off the vine in top shape – a testament to our Vineyard team! A wet, cool season and a later start to picking led to the development of ripe fruit flavours and higher natural acidity at lower sugar levels. Low night-time temperatures facilitated continued vine-balance and berry development up until a May harvest.
The 2011 Mail Coach Shiraz comes predominately from our own vineyards, on the outskirts of the township of Heathcote. Keeping to our tradition, we co-fermented 2% Viognier with the Shiraz, giving the young wine enticing aromatic complexity and providing structure and depth for optimal maturity. The wine was aged in 19.2% new oak (predominately French) for up to 17 months.

Winery Tasting Notes
Brilliant ruby red
Vibrant red fruits, cherry and redcurrant aromas are followed by an enticing hint of confectionary, pepper and well-integrated oak.
The palate shows bright red berry fruits, spice, white pepper and a touch of menthol – typical of a cooler year in Heathcote. This is an elegant wine supported by firm, silky tannins, bright acid and a lingering finish.
This wine may be enjoyed now, or cellared for the medium term.
