A lively, medium-bodied Shiraz, fleshy and dense in flavour; finishes long with primary fruit and supple tannins.
Sourced from a single vineyard in the North of the Heathcote Region, this wine is created as an approachable, bright and supple wine. Each batch of wine was fermented cool to retain the fresh fruit flavours of the wine. Pressing of the wine occurred once all the sugars were fermented, and the tannins were firm and integrated. After settling in tank, the 2012 Cravens Place Shiraz was aged in predominantly American oak for up to eight months.
Colour
Brilliant ruby red with purple hues.
Aroma
Fruits of the forest dominate the palate, with the sweet vanillin oak adding to the aromas.
Palate
The dark berry fruit seen on the nose follows through onto the palate along with spice and cherries and redcurrants. The tannins are supple, and the wine is rich, round and mouthfulling.
Cellaring
Enjoy on release or cellar in the short term.
Uniquely positioned in the main street of Heathcote, Heathcote Winery holds a surprise for many of its visitors. The Cellar Door and adjacent Art Gallery are situated in the main street of Heathcote, in a restored miners produce store built by Thomas Craven in 1854 to cater for the huge influx of gold miners seeking their fortune.
Few would then expect to find a fully functioning winery directly behind the Cellar Door!!
Heathcote Winery produced its first vintage in 1983 and now specialises in the production of premium shiraz with the release of the 2006 vintage of the acclaimed Mail Coach shiraz marking the Winery's 11th vintage.
In 1997 the winery was purchased by an independent group of wine enthusiasts led by Stephen Wilkins. Stephen and his partners share a passionate commitment to produce wines reflective of the Heathcote Region but distinctly Heathcote Winery. The wines attest to this commitment, delivering concentrated fruit aromas and flavours and intense colour, but with a finishing elegance enhanced by splashes of viognier.
