Hay Shed Hill is one of the pioneer vineyards in Margaret River, planted in the early 1970's with the grape varieties that have made Margaret River a world renowned winemaking region including Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Hay Shed Hill 'Block Series' wines are made from single parcels of fruit from designated blocks ('Block 2') selected as the best grapes on the property. With hand-crafted care in the winery, these wines are a fine interpretation of an outstanding site. These wines showcase the best of the vineyard.
- WA - Margaret River
- Western Australia
Destemmed, open-fermented with pump overs, 10 days post-fermentation maceration, matured in French oak for 18 months. Vivid crimson-purple colour introduces a cabernet's cabernet, full of blackcurrant fruits ringed by the autocratic tannins that are unique to the variety. Because the balance is there, patience (which is essential) will be richly rewarded. James Halliday, Rating 95, 27th July 2015
Winery Tasting Notes
Dense blood red with a dark centre.
Ripe berry aromas of great intensity with underlying dusty and earthy characters typical of Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon. There is depth to the nose indicating there are reserves of complex aromas yet to develop and be exhibited in the wine.
The palate is substantial - this is a big wine by Western Australian standards with intense and fully ripe, fleshy sweet fruit filling the mid palate with great palate extension driven by the ripe and mature tannin. The mouthfeel is robust but the tannins are smooth.
