Expert Reviews

Made in precisely the same manner as the Tarraford Vineyard, the 2008 Arthurs Creek Vineyard comes from 33-year-old vines. This has a seriously mineral chalk and crushed stone nose with some mandarin peel, yuzu (lemon / lime) and grapefruit notes. With medium-high acid, moderate alcohol and weight, this is a more elegant, linear style possessing a long finish. Only 200 cases made. Drink 2011 to 2016+.Rating 91 - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate (01/07/2010)

Glowing yellow-green; an extremely complex funky Burgundian bouquet, but the palate is decidedly elegant and delicate, nectarine and citrus fruit to the fore. Has a great future.Rating 94 - James Halliday Wine Companion 2009

Pale yellow gold in the glass, this wine smells of green apple and lime zest. In the mouth it has a bright mineral and lime zest quality. Wet stones and citrus pith linger in the finish. 300 cases made. 35-year-old vines. Score: 9 - Alder Yarrow, (27/042010)

The Fine and Elegant section lived up to its billing with Giant Steps Arthur's Creek 2008 Chardonnay, stylish opulence with subtle oak nuttiness

Anthony Rose, (30/03/2010)

There is a distinct move from the riper, bigger, fuller, oakier and more alcoholic chardonnays of three or four years ago to more elegance and length. Wines to watch for in the coming years - very soon in some cases - are the pair from Giant Steps, "Arthur's Creek" and "Tarraford".Ken Gargett, Courier Mail(06/10/2009)

Arthur’s Creek Vineyard is situated in the North West corner of the Yarra Valley near St Andrews. The light, grey, clay soils on this site retained adequate amounts of water while limiting excessive vegetative growth. This canopy control provided great fl avour intensity in the fruit with grapefruit acidity and a balanced sugar level.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Yarra Valley based vignerons, the Sexton family live in the middle of their 80 acre vineyard established on the high north face of the Warramate Ranges in the dress circle of the Yarra Valley, one hour east of Melbourne.

At Giant Steps, they explore site, micro climatic and clonal differences between several specialised vineyards in the Yarra Valley including their own multiclonal vineyard and the highly regarded Tarraford vineyard.

Focused intently upon reflecting the individual and unique characteristics of each single vineyard, Giant Steps adopts a minimalist approach to winemaking including, whenever possible, vinification using indigenous yeasts and gravity flow transfers.

When in the Yarra Valley you must stop by the winery/cellar door situated in the main street of Healesville, which offers wood fired pizzas, in-house roasted coffee, cheese, beer on tap, and of course wine.
