This 100% Pinot Noir was harvested as whole clusters. It was fermented with a selected burgundy yeast in open fermenters for over a week before being pressed off. It was then put through full Malolactic fermentation. The wine was then racked into French oak barriques and matured for a further 13 months.

Winery Tasting Notes

Fresh, vibrant and bright ruby in colour.

This pinot noir displays a beautifully fragrant bouquet of spicy overtones, damp forest floor, ripe fruit and licorice, integrated with subtle oak characters.

Finely balanced, complex and supple, the savoury palate reveals cherry compote flavours seasoned with fine French oak (13 months) leading to a long silky finish.

Winery Profile

Owned by French born entrepreneur Georges Michel, former owner of Chateau de Grandmont in Burgundy, Georges Michel Estate was established in 1997, when Georges discovered the potential of the Marlborough region for producing top quality New Zealand varietals such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Viognier, Syrah and the internationally renowned Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Since then Georges Michel’s wines have been awarded numerous national and international Top Gold Awards in the USA, Europe, Australia and Asia.

Georges Michel Estate is situated in the famous 'Golden Mile' area, which denotes a micro “terroir” renowned as the best in Marlborough for consistent production of fine fruit and intense flavours.

Swan Michel – Winemaker

Georges’ daughter, Swan, has headed the winemaking team since 2005. After gaining her degree in Viticulture and Oenology in Lincoln University, she went to France for the 2004 vintage at Chateau le Grand Verdus (Bordeaux) where she crafted the wines under the supervision of the world famous winemaker, Patrick Valette.

In 2005, after the vintage at the New Zealand family winery, Swan was part of the winemaking team at the famous Clos des Lambray (1er Cru – Burgundy – France) and in 2006, at the world famous Domaine Henri Bourgeois in Sancerre (France).
