Cote Rotie A.C.

The vineyard of Côte Rôtie spreads over three villages on the right bank of the Rhône: Saint-Cyr sur Rhône, Ampuis and Tupin Semons. In the north, the Côte Brune, very steep, ferrous micaschiste terraces covered with schist sand. On the Côte Blonde, in the south, a predominance of gneiss with granite base. It is one of the oldest vineyards in France, originally developed by the Romans. Legend has it that the local lord, Seigneur Maugiron, divided his property between his two daughters, one blond, the other brunette, thus the famous names of Côte Blonde and Côte Brune given to the wines.

Winery Tasting Notes

A beautiful dark purple robe with intensity.

The nose opens on classic spicy notes of nutmeg and cinnamon with hints of liquorice which are the hallmark of the Syrah grape; Vanilla notes are also present thanks to the oak ageing in Laurus barrels.

An impressive structure is present on the palate with fine tannins, demonstrating the excellent maturity of the harvest. The finish is long and flavourful.

Best opened between 5 and 15 years of age.

Winery Profile

The Laurus wines, a prestigious range highlighting the know-how of Gabriel Meffre, have been created to represent the greatest attributes of the Côtes du Rhône and Rhône Valley crus. In order to obtain premium quality wines respecting the typicity of every appellation, careful attention is paid to the production and ageing of the wine before, during and after the vinification period. But the great particularity of the Laurus wines comes from the ageing in very special barrels: the Laurus barrel, which has a unique capacity of 275 litres. This allows a progressive oxidation which offers consequently a very elegant texture and taste in perfect harmony with original character of the wine.
