Winery Tasting Notes
This elegantly aromatic expression of Pinot Gris is sourced from cool ripening vineyards of Hawkes Bay. This diverse range of soils and grape characteristics enable the winemakers to deliberate, and to fashion a chosen style.
A traditional style Pinot Gris offering warmth and creaminess, long and flavoursome. Pale straw in colour. Lifted floral notes with hints of Nashi pear and white fleshed peach on the nose. Rich and soft textured palate with great depth of flavour reflecting the aromas. You';d think the Ohiti Valley was purpose built for wine making.
The valley's sedimentary soils are the result of thousands of years of river flooding, which allowed greywacke river gravels to be deposited on the plains. These soils are wine-friendly because they hold heat, drain freely and inhibit the vigour of the vines, which helps to concentrate flavours in the grapes. A perfect accompaniment to creamy pastas and fresh seafood such as BBQ'd calamari, prawns or scallops.
