The 2009 Cabernet sauvignon (yellow label) shows the flavours and elegance of the great 2009 vintage. It is a wine that will add to the quality profile of the Canberra District. Helm Cabernets are made from only “Valley” vineyards, growing within 1 Km of the winery so as to express the unique regional characteristics. They are carefully matured in French and American oak for 2 years. After bottling a minimum of 6 months bottle age is demanded before release. We intend that you the customer will receive an aged wine to enjoy now and also cellar for many years.

Clear, medium purple-red; has clear cabernet varietal character on the bouquet and medium - to full-bodied palate; having opened with blackcurrant fruit, slightly grippy tannins then take hold, but I have no fear about the future of the wine three or four years down the track. Rating 90 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2013
Ken Helm maintains a faith in Canberra Cabernets, working with neighbour Al Lustenberger to bring out the best in the variety. In the outstanding 2009 vintage, Helm’s is an elegantly structured wine built on pure , just ripe fruit, delicate, cabernet flavours. Helm inclusion of French oak, along with his previously favoured American oak, sits more sympathetically with the elegant fruit.

Winery Tasting Notes
Careful winemaking and a long oak maturation in French and American new and aged casks has produced an elegant wine of surprising length. Hints of vanilla and mint in the bouquet. A smooth palate showing rich blackcurrant fruit flavours balanced with oak and finishing with assertive tannins.
A versatile wine that will complement any red meat dish particularly lamb. Great with barbequed meats or vegetables.
