Overview

The key vintage signature for our 2010 Pinot Noir is concentration. The tiny berries and small grape bunches translated into really intense floral, plum/cherry, spice and savoury notes in our wine, along with an abundance of supple and firm tannins. We held the wine longer in barrel to develop and round these tannins, which balance the flavour concentration on the palate.

Expert Reviews

This is an engaging and complex pinot displaying dark cherry, plum, floral and spice aromas. The palate is dense and richly textured with lovely focus, leading to an impressively long finish backed by fine/firm tannins. A superbly structured and concentrated wine showing excellent potential. At its best: now to 2017. Sam Kim, Wine Orbits

Winery Tasting Notes

Aroma

A wonderfully scented wine with a fragrance of wild herbs, cherries and violets.

Palate

The palate shows all the weight that you would expect from Central Otago with dark fruits like cherries and plums evident throughout. Some earthy tones and a hint of cinnamon flow through the wine. Plenty of good structure, medium length with a nice acid backbone and silky tannins. Well balanced and drinking superbly.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

A short drive from the town of Cromwell Central Otago you will find the spectacular site of Ellero Wines. The Organically grown Pisa Terrace Vineyards are set high up on a hill with the rugged beauty of snow capped mountains in the background. The “Terraces are an island like vista” offering well needed air drainage on its slopes which helps to protect the vines from frost during those bitterly cold spring mornings.

It’s all about the site and the soil profiles that make these truly outstanding wines. The land at Ellero is made up of rocks and gravel of decomposed Schist and Quartz, which provide the vines with the drainage they need to survive.

Ellero are true artisan wine producers dedicated to making wines that reflect the individuality of the vineyard sites.

Ellero’s devotion to organic farming is evident not only from the 7 hectares of vineyards planted and also the 300 corn and tomato plants situated on the south side of the vineyard.

Pinot Noir and Riesling are produced in very small quantities. The wines are carefully made showing why organically grown vineyard practises are producing some exceptional wines from this region.
