While this drop has been adored for many years, it’s only in fairly recent times that the rosé revolution has hit its stride, with many sauvignon blanc lovers making the switch to its pink hued cousin.

Winery Tasting Notes

Winemaking Note

2012 will be remembered as a great vintage throughout Victoria, and this years release blends Cabernet Sauvignon (50%) Merlot (30%) and Shiraz (20%). The Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are sourced from the Yarra Valley, and the Shiraz from the Pyrenees region.

These varieties play a pivotal role in this year’s release, adding great fruit intensity to our moreish style.

The result is a fresh, elegant wine with a superb red berry fragrance and a delicious dry and savoury finish.

Winery Profile

Red 5 Star Winery - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2013

Dominique Portet was bred in the purple. He spent his early years at Chateau Lafite (where his father was rgisseur) and was one of the very first Flying Winemakers, commuting to Clos du Val in the Napa Valley, where his brother was winemaker. He then spent over 20 years as managing director of Taltarni and Clover Hill in Tasmania. After retiring from Taltarni, he moved to the Yarra Valley, a region he had been closely observing since the mid 1980s. In 2001 he found the site he had long looked for and in the twinkling of an eye built his winery and cellar door, planting a quixotic mix of viognier, sauvignon blanc and merlot next to the winery. Son Ben is now executive winemaker, leaving Dominique with a roving role as de facto consultant and brand marketer. Ben (30) has a winemaking CV of awesome scope, covering all parts of France, South Africa, California and four vintages at Petaluma. Exports to Canada, The Netherlands, Denmark, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, China and Japan. James Halliday
