Cotes du Rhone Villages A.C.

Domaine de la Renjarde is owned by the Richard family, like Château La Nerthe (Châteanuef-du-Pape) and Prieuré de Montézargues(Tavel). Christian Voeux is the winemaker and manager of these 3 estates. Located in Serignan-du-Comtat, which is between Orange and Avignon, the 40+ year old vineyard combines all traditional grape varietals for the Southern Rhône Valley; Grenache, Syrah, Mourvédre, Carignan, and Cinsault. The vines are planted in soils deep in calcareous sandstones well-sited on gently undulating slopes. Grapes are all machine harvested and are fermented in a combination of concrete and temperature-controlled stainless steel vats.

Winery Tasting Notes

Grape Varieties

Grenache Noir 65%, Syrah 17%, Cinsault 11%, Carignan 4% and Mourvedre 4%

A brilliant wine, with a deep colour and purple tints.

The nose is intense with notes of raspberry, cherry, red fruit jam and toast.

On the palate, lots of roundness, freshness, a nice firmness in the remaining fine tannins which are accompanied by notes of black fruits. The finish is long. Elegant tannins for a wine that has a nice ageing potential, but can also be appreciated now.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

The Domaine de la Renjarde vineyards are situated on an “oppida” (a type of natural rise in the terrain), which stretches from Serignan to Uchaux, and makes up one of the first spurs of the Prealpes du Diois”, and provides the vines with good protection from the wind. The nature of the soils, the long sunshine hours and the terraced cultivation combine to result in finesse, structure and bouquet in the Renjarde wines.

As always, when they built an oppidum, the Romans chose a dominating position: the hill of Renjarde between Serignan and Uchaux is one of the first spurs of the Diois Pre-Alps. As far back as one can remember, this area has always known olive trees, fields of cereals and vines. The 51 hectares of the Renjarde vineyards stretch across this naturally elevated area, protected from the winds …and from invaders.

The vines, facing south and grown on terraces, are planted on a soil composed of sand, sandstone, and calcareous rocks good for filtering, ideal conditions for a precocious harvest in the Côtes-du-Rhône Villages territory.

In fact, everything here joins together to favor the making of full-bodied, well-balanced wines. Naturally, the grape varieties used on Domaine de la Renjarde are the traditional Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Mourvèdre to which is added the ancient Carignan, with its particular bouquet and valued for its structure. The vines on average are nearly 40 years old.
