A superlative expression of Grand cru Chardonnay of Champagne, ChampagneDelamotte Blanc de Blancs is made from our vineyards and partner vineyards all situated in the villages of Le Mesnil, Oger and Cramant. Our winemaking is straight forward, there is no secret, and all the wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks. A very restrained dosage is used, to not mislead the purity of the territory surrounding the village of Le Mesnil, producing an untouched, mineral style of wine. Just 10% reserve wines are used, favouring the essential character of our vineyards, an indefinitely “crayeux” expression of Champagne.

Grown on chalk soil our Chardonnay is quite austere in its youth; hence the wine in bottle “grows on the lees” for 4 to 5 years before disgorgement, while the legal minimum is 15 months. The disgorged wine will benefit from further ageing for 2 to 6 years before the full character of the wine shines.

Expert Reviews

The Blanc de Blancs is aged for a particularly long time and it has the acidity and fruit credentials to handle it, displaying a refreshingly pale hue and particularly vibrant lemon, lemon butter and white peach primary characters. All those years on lees have built notes of roast almond and nutmeg. Its distinguished Côte des Blancs fruit sources shine in its grand cru concentration and persistence, lingering with fine Le Mesnil minerality on an outstanding finish. Rating 95 - Tyson Stelzer, Champagne Guide 2012 - 2013

Winery Tasting Notes

Foremost a mineral wine, Delamotte Blanc de Blancs NV has textbook chalkiness; with time in the glass showing its complexity from the lees and white flesh fruit.

Serving Suggestion

Our wines should be served chilled but not cold (12°C) and the choice of glassware should resemble a small, elegant wine glass rather than a thin flute.

On its own, with fresh oysters, elegant seawater fish or simply fresh radish with a touch of fleur de sel, Delamotte Blanc de Blancs is a versatile wine as aperitif or at the table.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

The neighbouring domain to Salon at Le Mesnil was established as long ago as 1760. It was previously closely linked with Lanson and in 1949 it was taken over by the Nonancourt family. Since Laurent-Perrier bought Salon in 1989, Delamotte has functioned as Salon's second label.

Delamotte owns five hectares at Le Mesnil and has access to Salon's vineyards during the years when no Salon is produced. Didier Dupond runs both firms with great sensitivity and enthusiasm.

Delamotte purchases 75 per cent of its grapes, mostly from Premier cru villages. The 99 is very unalloyed and polished with a nice, uplifting, balanced fruity base. Probably a wine that will reach its peak quite early on. It is reminiscent of a rich Chablis. The 96 magnum is already a classic.
