Overview

Appellation: Vouvray A.C., Touraine, Loire, France

Dry Vouvray comes from clay-limestone plots with a high density of flint stones. This soil produces fast-maturing wines. The grapes are pressed for 2 to 3 hours. Then decanted, the unfermented wine is put in oak barrels for spontaneous fermentation with temperature control. The wine is bottled in the spring after being racked two or three times and finely filtered.

Winery Profile

Located on the former outbuilding of a medieval castle, the Domaine d’Orfeuilles was founded in 1947 by Paul Herivault. The “Vouvray Appellation Controlee” vineyard now covers almost 20 hectares in the communes of Chancay and Reugny. This vineyard is now cultivated by Bernard Herivault and his son Arnaud. They make every effort to maintain the traditions in the cultivation of the vines as well as production of their wines.

The Chenin variety us grown on clayey, clay-limestone soil with a high density of flint stone. This situation, specific for our vineyard, gives our wines an unmistakable characteristic: the famous “flinty taste”.
