In addition to the estate-grown Chardonnay grapes, Curlewis purchases Chardonnay grapes from other growers in the Geelong region. When combined these add to the complexity of the Bellarine Selection or “Bel Sel” wines and incorporate the flavour characteristics of the Curlewis range, but with less oak treatment.

Expert Reviews

Mid-gold; a savoury wine, with lemongrass, lemon pith, anise and ginger; the palate is rich on entry, with enough acidity and a salty tang to provide freshness on the finish.

Rating 89 - Drink By 2016 - Ben Edwards, James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion(MAR/2016)

Winery Tasting Notes

Bright straw, yellow and green.

Aromas of nectarine and tangy grapefruit with some barrel ferment notes on the bouquet.

Flavours and textures of white peach, nectarine and hazelnut with perfectly integrated oak. A well balanced, flavoursome palate that glides across the tongue.

Cellaring Potential

Drinking beautifully now and up to 2017.

Grays Tasting Panel Review

Cashew and walnut, vanilla, lemon on the nose. Clean on the palate, good lively acidity, orange peel on the finish.Crisp and pleasant.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

We absorb the wine-making styles of Burgundy and Rhone in particular, but set out to take advantage of our more consistent climate and some of the better new techniques to create wines of greater concentration and flavour ripeness yet still with the full length of palate that goes with ultra premium wines the world over.Success for us is a Grand Cru Burgundy drinker who buys our wine because in her opinion it almost reaches that quality at a tenth of the price.

The winery was established in1998 by Rainer Breit & Wendy Oliver with the first vintage produced that year. Owner’s Stefano Marasco & Leesa Freyer say “the combination of the old vines, deep rich soil and the amazing palate of winemaker Rainer Breit, creates the unique and superior Pinot Noir wine of Curlewis.
