This is the second vintage of the new label from Cullen Wines, who have been very successful in meeting their aim of producing a wine which, while fruit driven, is of such high quality that it will develop for several years under good cellaring conditions.

This wine was made from a carefully selected blend of Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot grown on the Mangan Vineyard, which has been shown to be ideally suited to nurturing these grape varieties.

As with the fruit used for the Mangan Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend in 2013, the above three grape varieties all performed very well in this vintage and thus facilitated the production of this particularly flavoursome and complex wine. The wine benefited from ageing for eleven months in oak.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Winemaking began on the Cullen property in Margaret River less than 40 years ago. Studies in South Western Australia conducted in the early 1960Â?s showed that Margaret River had some special qualities. The climate was particularly suited to growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. On the advice of eminent agronomist Dr John Gladstones, Kevin and Diana Cullen planted a trial acre of vines at Willyabrup in 1966. The encouraging results of this led to the planting of 18acres of vines on the sheep and cattle farm in 1971, including their first Cabernet Sauvignon vines. Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc were planted between 1976 and 1978. Cullen Wines has since evolved into an estate specialising in single vineyard, premium quality wines focussed on wine integrity, rather than rapid expansion.
